2022 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The History of Independent Telephone Companies in Maine is a new exhibit completed in 2020 that provides some sample history of the many independent phone companies that were founded in Maine. This is an interactive, self-guided exhibit in our Visitor’s Center building. Telephones and switchboards are connected to show how calls were placed and received during the time of the founding and operations of one of the independent telephone companies. We encourage our visitors to please check out this exhibit and learn about the fascinating history of these phone companies. This exhibit is open to visitors during our normal museum hours and by appointment. Contact us today to schedule your tour.

Volunteer Days are every third Saturday May through end of September. During volunteer days, we work on various projects with the phones and switching equipment, accession new donated equipment and paperwork, clean the buildings and grounds, work on public outreach, and more. Volunteer tour guides are especially requested to help lead visitors through the museum, discuss key points of telephone history, and provide demonstration of phones and switching equipment. No telephone industry experience is necessary; we will provide you with training. Also requested are volunteers to man the gift shop. Contact us if you would like to volunteer.
